Genre: Horror Exploration Puzzle Game
Game Overview
Out of Frame is a horror exploration puzzle game developed using Unreal Engine 5. Players take on the role of a high school student who searches for lost memories within a dream world while attempting to escape a nightmare filled with danger and the unknown.
The core objective of the game is to deliver a highly immersive horror chase experience. Players must collect memory-related items and use a camera with night vision to observe the lurking nightmare in the dark. The camera not only serves as a survival tool but can also temporarily halt the nightmare’s approach. Every decision impacts both survival and puzzle progression, creating a tense, high-pressure atmosphere that enhances immersion.
All art, sound effects, and game features were fully original and created by the development team.
Key Contributions
Project Management & Core Mechanic Implementation:
As the producer, I led a 10-member cross-disciplinary team consisting of programmers, artists, designers, and sound designers, driving the project from concept to a functional prototype. I was responsible for overall project management, task allocation, resource coordination, and fostering a collaborative and positive team environment.
Level Design & Interactive Experience:
I designed all the levels for the game and guided the environment artists to build immersive and atmospheric horror environments. I created puzzle mechanics and optimized the player experience during exploration, chases, and puzzle-solving. Through terrain shaping and strategic lighting, I established clear navigational routes for players within each level.
System Balancing & Narrative Integration:
I refined the alignment between gameplay systems and the narrative, optimized resource management, camera mechanics, and escape strategies to ensure both tension and storytelling depth. Additionally, I completed the development of 80% of the game’s core mechanics.
